Since the evolution of technology, there has been a sharp rise in application-based investment platforms that have further broadened the scope of investing. The surge in these applications has benefitted those with intent to invest, but without the time to follow up with brokers or be physically present at trading terminals.
Groww and Paytm Money are two such apps that have taken the foray in terms of offering an investor the comfort of trading in equity stocks and mutual funds from their smart devices anytime, anywhere.
The following article compares these two platforms for users to make an informed decision on where to invest their money.
Groww vs Paytm Money review
Both Groww and Paytm Money are established players in this market, but each individual has certain preferences. We take a look at some key factors that can help customers decide on which app is suitable as per their requirements.
App features
Both apps cover a good set of features that help users get the best out of their investments. However, Groww seems to have some additional features of its own, which are described below:
- Mutual fund comparison: Probably one of the most important features for any first-time investor, the mutual fund comparison helps users pick and choose the best fund for their investment. The feature lets you compare the return on investment (ROI) across a period of time. You can compare up to three mutual funds at once.
- Xperts: One of the key features of the Groww app is its ability to provide users the access to expert advice, using the Groww platform. This section has numerous educational videos about various funds, as well as key investment strategies by some of the known experts in the industry.
The App also hosts many “Ask Me Anything” sessions, where users can actively interact with established panelists and have them answer some of their queries. This is highly beneficial as it provides users an opportunity to interact with seasoned veterans in this domain.
- Equity tab: Another key feature that’s available only on Groww is that users can invest in the equity market through the equity section available in the app. Currently, there seems to be no option to invest in individual equity stocks via Paytm Money, which could be a factor for users looking to invest in both mutual funds and equity.
Paytm money, on the other hand, is more graphical and offers some key features of its own such as allowing users to shortlist funds under a watch list for them to track their preferred funds and their NPS offering, which helps users plan for a life post-retirement.
However, Groww does offer a more robust set of features relevant for users to help them with their investments.
Verdict: Groww wins
Ease of use
Both apps have a fairly simple user interface with easy-to-comprehend user flows, making it feasible for users to navigate and explore through the app. Both apps also have easy-to-navigate quick action bars and compact views for the user to access all options in one go.
The Groww app offers the added luxury of using the phone’s fingerprint scanner to provide secure access to the app, which is not available on the Paytm Money app.
The Groww app also provides a short description of the various features it offers, to ensure users do not get confused, a problem that users of the Paytm Money app may face.
Thus, the Groww app does have a marginal advantage.
Verdict: Groww wins
Transaction & service charges
Both apps are currently free for users to register and start using the features. The apps do levy transaction fees while users invest (depending on which AMC the user deals with) and is the same for both apps.
Verdict: Tie
Customer support
Neither app provides a customer care number for you to talk to regarding issues, and you can only contact the support team via email. Groww, however, does offer a detailed FAQ section to cater to most user queries before they decide to mail the support team.
Verdict: Groww wins
Safety & Reliability
Both apps are registered with SEBI and redirect users to the asset management company for transactions, meaning they do not, at any point, hold the user’s money. This makes both apps safe and reliable.
Verdict: Tie
Third-party reviews
Groww app has a better Play Store rating (4.6) than the Paytm Money app (4.3), and 3rd party reviews also recommend Groww as having the edge over Paytm Money, particularly for users who are new to investing. Groww is more user-friendly and simpler in its design.
Verdict: Groww wins
The bottom line
While the Paytm Money app does provide users a good investment experience through infographics and some basic features, the analysis above establishes Groww to be the better app with robust features and an easier-to-use interface.
Great post and advice. Very useful information, it clarified things a lot for us. Thanks for the wonderful blog.
Thank you for the review, I think there is scope of imprvement in this. You can add ease of withdrawal, payment modes supported, withdrawal time etc.
I am using both platforms for mutual fund investments. I would prefer paytm money over groww. I did not liked groww and want to move from groww to paytm money.
Any particular reason?
